Want To Be A Charismatic Leader? Be Attractive!

Written By: Lance Piatt

So you know that guy or gal you would fly, drive, run (not walk) or watch… just to learn and hear what he or she says?  You are this person to others, you just don’t know it yet and neither to do they and I want to help bridge that gap for you (and them).

Leadership is all about creating a mass movement.  Here are a few things you need to about being a true front-runner.

  1. Charismatic Leader is an Attractive Leader
  2. You need to have a Cause… this is your Cult-ure
  3. Always present a New Opportunity… this is your “vehicle of change”

We’ll dig into all this as time goes on, but for now, lets see what a leader is AND…why people would follow “you”.

You need to be able to lead people from being a student to an being an expert.  Another way to say this is Growth–>Contribution.  All of us are meant to lead people through a journey.  It isn’t that you have some super-human power, but you do have talents, ideas and unique abilities that have gotten you to the “this” point in your life.  A key component to life is knowing “what got you here” and limiting the elements that pull you away from this sweet spot of yours.

Does leadership require a certification?  I would be lying if I said no.  However!!!! I am saying that if you are REALLY GOOD at what you do, people will simply want to follow you.  It is really that easy.  The hard part is finding that point and staying with it.  To grow it.  To nurture it.  To get it to the point of “contribution”.

Leaders must have a heart to serve.  If they don’t, leadership is more of a dictatorship than leadership.  I am making the argument that there is a world of difference here.  If you are going to start a movement and become a change agent, you’ll need people who’ll follow you.  I know this sounds weird, but it is true.  The point of serving is that you are serving to make a change in something and you need people to follow your lead to make the change.

OK, so lets get to the focal point.  I realize that the majority of my audience is in the rescue and rigging industry.  I also know you are human and as humans, we are very diverse beings.  Suited for many wonderful things.  Lets get real here.  Are you really in this industry simply because you like rigging?  Of course not!  There is something much more deeply rooted in your soul that drives you to being better and it is here that I want to place a stake in the ground.  What is your pivot point in life?

Yes, you might be a fire fighter, SAR member, rope access technician, or a work at height technician.  These areas of “what” you do, do not define you.  You are deeper than that.  So lets treat the rest of this article as a business.. the business of leading people, being a change agent, and having a vehicle to accomplish all of it.

Russell Brunson suggests there are 3 Markets or Mega-Points of business.  These core markets are health, wealth or relationships.  Sub-markets within these core markets could be just about anything.  It is in the third level… the Niche or “?”, where your special sauce is found. The goal is to find a single or combination of Niches and create your Life Pivot Point.

There is a term in business called blue ocean strategy. This is in contrast to “red ocean strategy”.  Why?  Red is where everyone is… it is a bloody mess.  Blue is where unique ideas and strategies are found.  It is here in the “blue ocean” you’ll find your place to shine.  A place to lead.  A place to excel and grow your leadership skills.

A few questions you’ll want to ask.

  1. Are people in your Sub Market excited about what you are presenting?
  2. Are people passionate about the Niche you are entering?
  3. Are people able or willing to spend money, time or energy with you and your information?

So if you haven’t figured it out… I am making the assumption you are in a life growth curve and you are wanting and or needing to make or take some steps in making something happen in your life.

Who do you need to become a LEADER?  Weird question?  Not really.  See people are silently asking (and many begging) to be led (properly).

So what is an attractive character anyway? It means you live the life your audience wishes they could.  Not as a poser, but a real life “hero”…  your life will inspire them more than your words ever will.  Begin the process of looking at your life through a few lenses.

  • Elements… be able to tell your story.  Be vulnerable.
  • Identity… put yourself out there.  Be courageous.

OK… so here are a few rules to think about in this journey of yours.

  1. Live your life the way others wish they could.
  2. Maintain absolute certainty (about who you are and the message you are bringing to others).
  3. Don’t be boring. Being neutral on anything is boring. You want to be a polarizer.
  4. Be persuasive. People follow people who encourage their dreams, allay fears and help them throw rocks at their enemies.
  5. Care A LOT!
  6. Make sure there is huge value in them having a relationship with you.

Obviously there is a life time of information here but don’t worry… it will make sense if it doesn’t already. Lets get your voice heard shall we?

Peace on your days!
