Twin Highline Unit 3 : Working Platform for Ascent and Descent

Written By: Lance Piatt

The third part in the series on the rigging of a Twin Highline. This unit goes through the pieces and theory behind the “Platform” from which a rescuer or worker can move across the area beneath them, as well as lower down to it and ascend back up to the line centered around the Rock Exotica Rockstar. This an overview of a working at height rope access job site. The roof top of a tank can not be walked on, but must have some NDT (non destructive testing) work done on it. A tensioned track line was devised to create a working platform to carry the technician into the job site safely and effectively. Two systems, a set of track lines that tensioned using our 5:1 Tandem Tensioning Kit, and a working platform in which two independent working/safety lines are suspended from the track lines. There is also a belay rope and allows the technician to travel up and or down the track lines. In this video, Sterling Rope HTP 11mm rope was used for the tracking highline. Petzl Am’d carabiners were used through out the system. Rock Exotica swivel pulleys were used in the Tandem Tensioning Kit. The technician was fitted with Petzl Bod harness and Ecrin Roc helmet.
