Early on I in my career I was embarrassed as to how little I understood and I tried to keep a lid on things, so this meant I had to listen extra hard to find things I could help with in the “here and now”.

I remember my first trade show in San Jose (1997). I had built my display and everything was ready… So along comes John Yates (Yates Gear), Kyle Isenhart (RSI) and Steve Hudson (PMI) ~ the godfathers of rope rescue ~ and they stopped at my table to chat. John leans over and says… “your pulley system display is backwards”… he smiles, winks and walks away.
To say I was embarrassed would be an understatement. John is a class act and a man of integrity. It was a jab in good fun, but also gracious as he wanted to make sure a friend made the comment and not someone else. He wanted me to succeed but also know that lessons learned are lessons gained and I was very grateful.
Eventually as I grew up… my skills and understanding were improved enough to where building systems to help others became my passion. I also grew to understand that rigging doesn’t make the team better… excellent leadership does this quicker and much more thoroughly.
The excitement I felt was palpable.. like finding Hidden Treasures. Once you know how to find them, these treasures are not so hidden now… they are everywhere.
Challenged to find an answers to thousands of departments and teams in the United States and across the nations led to me building Rigging Lab Academy and ultimately the Unlimited Team Membership.
