Here is a quick insiders conversation with some pretty solid and cool people at Harken…. The conversation started with a bang… Here is Sean Cogan and Syd Millman.
“What do you think about there’s some … I won’t mention names here. But a fellow manufacturer in our space, a good friend of mine, we were together after a conference and he said, you know, the technology you guys present in winches and the hydraulics of all these linear motion systems, the stuff I see … The stuff I see on a boat is so far beyond the complexity of anything we would ever need to perform a rescue or access situation. You know, and he said that if you guys ever get into making more of the conventional gear set, you know, you’d kill it.
Just the manufacturing capabilities within Harken are so far beyond some of the other manufacturers in the space that have just been climbing. You know, they’ve been solving a climbing issue and done a great job at it, but there’s a reason that they don’t use climbing pulleys on boats. I mean there’s a reason, you know … we’re not looking at other competitors in rope access and rescue as anything that would ever come into our marine space. Because they just don’t have the means of making for harsh salt water environments …
You know, when those guys sail across the Antarctic and stuff, could you imagine a manufacturer in the climbing space being like, yeah, go ahead, wash it down with hot salt water. If it freezes up on you, just wash it down with hot salt water. I mean that’d be the death of so many products out there.”
And it just gets better. Grab some coffee and enjoy this conversation with Sean and Syd…
