Equipment Overview: Petzl I'D (Excerpt and transcription From RLA 5 Day Advance Online Course)
We just showed the other end of the haul system where we had the RollClip and the Tibloc. At the progress capture anchor end, we decided to use the Petzl I’D. There are lighter options out there; even later this year, we’ll be going through some super light kits and presenting those for you.
For this course, we used the I’D because it does two things for us:
- It solves all our needs in one spot. It works as a ratcheting progress capture. If we pull the rope in, it won’t slide back out. It locks there.
- It allows us to lower the system. That would be done just by cranking the handle over, setting it into descent mode, and we have a controlled descent to let the rope out.
With one device without any changeover problems, all we have to do is undo our pulley system. We could then lower this out. It goes both ways which is one of the benefits of using the multi-function.
