Building Anchors with Spring Loaded Cams: Pull Test Using Metolius Camming Units.

This video shows only a brief encounter with “suspect material” and that not every placement is a good one. No camming units were hurt in this making of this video. Building anchors with camming units (also know as cams or SLCDs) is not nearly as easy as it may appear. Each cam is rated for a tension or vector pull. The rating is determined by the size of the cam, proper placement of the cam and the material or rock. Whether a leading climbing, setting a belay and main anchor for “the second” in multi pitch climbs, setting up a top rope climb or a host of rescue and rigging scenarios ranging from setting up high directional (AHD or artificial high directionals) to calculated endeavors like high lines or slack lining (although… this would be a very very precise place for cams.
