Arizona Vortex Multipod Workshop Day 2 V8, Easel A-Frame

Written By: Lance Piatt

The Arizona Vortex Workshop was hosted by Rescue Response Gear and The Rigging Lab. CMC Rescue taught the 3 day workshop and was well attended. In this footage, the rescuer is being lowered through the MPDs and managing a CMC Rescue Stretcher/Litter. When the bottom is reached, the mechanical advantage pulley system is rigged and the raise begins. The belay side (CMC MPD) remains the same. With the long easel leg, the Multipod resists the tipping force associated with equal-leg tripods, but still must be secured. The increased skidding force on the feet must be taken into account when anchoring the feet or securing the legs. High directionals can decrease the difficulty associated with negotiating the edge. Care must be taken to assure that the directional is rigged correctly and will support the weight of the system.
