So on this wonderfully cold day in February, I sit and ponder the future. The normal pondering of mine look something like this:
Future thinking people tend to be driven by their talents. They use images mostly to describe what they are thinking. Not everyone forward thinks this way, but most people do respond or learn better through images if they don’t have “hand-eye” motor learning activities they are involved with at the time. Why is this important to know? Images and or videos are the ticket when not “doing the stuff”. Many people filter what their mind has brought in through sight and apply this to their motor skills. After this, repetition takes over the skills become part of what you do. Future folks will use their own intelligence and imagination to build something productive, reach a goal, increase their production or… Yep, solve a problem.
Strategy people will actually see solutions before others actually see a problem. They may generate ideas before sorting through the problem. They love devising options and have little interest in doing what worked in the past. They might look at the circumstances, determine the resources, budgets, constraints and timelines and quickly determine the path or steps. You have a very cool ability to identify problems before they happen.
Input people have a “need to know” thing going on. Rarely satisfied, this is such a cool person to have (as an individual or on your team) because they constantly keep things moving. See, fact-finding helps others with strengths, limitations, interests, likes, dislikes and goals. You are drawn to knowledge and skill sets. Ambitions and intentions light a fire for you and you often challenge people to know more.
Activation is often about stories — they’ll include things like habits, qualities, and experiences. This stories might be themselves, or others. Urgency is a main piece of activation, so moving on to the “next thing” is important. Could be assignments. Activators tend to be looked at as domineering and even threatening. Keen interests are found in talents, limitations, goals, worries or successes. If there is a void, activators will learn what it means to fill it.
Maximizers are linkers and networkers. Mutual ground and understanding are the keys to getting things done in a big way. Always figuring out better ways to use the talents around them, understanding is huge. You might even say, having a strong maximizer around is like having a huge 10:1 mechanical advantage with everything you do. It might take some work to get things together, but dang, once momentum starts, it is as easy as a hot knife in butter.
What Cords Do You Hold?
So obviously this stuff has applications everywhere and with everyone. Please understand that there are a ton of specific strengths people have and these are just five. Think about this: a solution is 2 or more elements dissolved into a liquid right? It actually becomes something else. Your team and department literally have the capacity of transforming itself through its own personnel by simply allowing the process of “solution” to work. Now, the other cool thing here is that each individual keeps his/her own strengths while simultaneously building another strength alongside “him”. Is that cool or what?
