Swift Water Rescue: 2-Point Anchor System for Victim Pick-Off

Swift water rescues often demand innovative and efficient techniques to ensure safe operations. This dramatization showcases the use of a 2-point anchor system to transport a victim across a river, highlighting precision and teamwork in the process.

The 2-Point Anchor System in Action

  1. Objective:
The goal was to transport a victim or patient from one side of the river to the other using a boat securely tethered by two anchored ropes.
  2. System Setup:
    • Anchor Configuration:
Two separate anchor points were established on either side of the river to secure the boat. This setup allowed the river’s natural current to act as a ferrying mechanism, efficiently moving the boat across and back.
    • Line Deployment:
A ResQMax line gun was used to accurately deploy the second mainline to the opposite side of the river (river left), ensuring the system was quickly and safely established.
  3. Controlled Ferrying with Pulley Systems:
    • A 1:1 pulley system was employed on both sides of the river, featuring:
      • Progress Capture Devices: Extensions from the anchor provided added control and safety.
      • Change of Direction Pulleys: These ensured smooth transitions and precise control over the boat’s movement.
    • This setup allowed rescuers to maintain a steady, controlled ferry across the river, minimizing risks and ensuring the victim’s safety.

Key Advantages of the System

  • Efficient Use of Natural Forces:
By leveraging the river’s current, the team minimized physical effort while maintaining precision.
  • Safety and Control:
Progress capture and directional pulleys reduced the risk of system failure and ensured consistent movement.
  • Rapid Deployment:
Tools like the ResQMax line gun enabled fast and effective line placement across challenging terrain.

This approach to swift water rescue underscores the importance of combining technical rigging expertise with adaptive use of natural elements.
