The Arizona Vortex Workshop was hosted by Rescue Response Gear and The Rigging Lab. CMC Rescue taught the 3 day workshop and was well attended. Most of the evolutions included a Mirrored Systems using the CMC MPD and the progress capture on the main line, as well as the belay line. This type of set up is perfect when the lower and raise is situated at a place where the platform (where the feet of the vortex) is flat, wide and centered. The three legs are rigged at the edge. The feet are then lashed such that the legs resist downward forces being placed on them (compression). In this footage, the rescuer is being lowered through the MPDs and managing a CMC Rescue Stretcher/Litter. When the bottom is reached, the mechanical advantage pulley system is rigged and the raise begins. The belay side (CMC MPD) remains the same. High directionals can decrease the difficulty associated with negotiating the edge. Care must be taken to assure that the directional is rigged correctly and will support the weight of the system.
