The Differences and Similarities of the AZTEK Elite and Pocket Hauler

Meet The Players...

The AZTEK Elite and the Pocket Hauler. Compact pulley systems have been in use for a long time, but the AZTEK in its current version is really what is known best. The original version (AZTEK Pro), is Sterling’s Pocket Hauler, includes these mini double pulleys and had a progress capture prusik at one end. The updated version, the AZTEK Elite, features these purpose built swivel pulleys (Rock Exotica AZTEK Omni Blocks), has a side becket, which allows the system to collapse down more compactly and gives the option for progress capture on both ends.

The Personal End...

The AZTEK Elite kits include the Purcell prusik (to be attached at the “personal end”, known as the travel restraint. By clipping this end of the rope to an anchor, a rescuer can then use this travel restraint to safely approach the edge. Once there, they can lock it off in a position that allows them to perform their tasks but without falling over the edge and it can be backed up by a knot. Doing this removes the need to use other people and resources to keep the edge workers safe.

  • be configured as a 5:1, or 4:1 with a redirect by just rotating the system. T

    • and much more.

The pulley portion of the AZTEK is certified for NFPA for general use. There are several kit configurations depended on the “sourse”.  One is certified to general use (NFPA G) and has steel carabiners, one certified to technical use (NFPA T), which has aluminum carabiners.  

PLEASE NOTE, there is zero difference in the actual AZTEK pulleys or the cord between the two certifications. The only difference in the kits (from anyone) are the carabiners used to connect the AZTEK to the other objects (be it anchors, people, or devices).  Consult your SOPs to determine whether you need the “stamped” versions or not.
