Industrial Rescue After a Fall (Trailer) with Tom Wood, Director of Vertical Rescue Solutions

Written By: Lance Piatt

This course was filmed on location at VRS headquarters and the various towers in the mountainous areas of Colorado’s Front Range. Although this course was presented by Vertical Rescue Solutions for the PMI TowerPack and its use, the concept for work at height professionals can not be overemphasised. This course covers components, Self-Escape, Solo Rescue, Two Person Rescue and Companion Rescue. ANSI Z359 2007 is also discussed.

It is rare when we consider a project where the concepts are based on an product. However, when Tom Wood of Vertical Rescue Solutions showed me the TowerPack… I was sold. And though the project has gone through a couple of really cool improvements, the process of rescue fallen industrial workers couldn’t be more self explanatory. Tom is a master at communication.

A little blurb and shout out for Tom… He is also an author: Trading Steel for Stone: Tales of a Rustbelt Refugee Turned Rocky Mountain Rescuer
“When the author began his career as a volunteer mountain rescuer with the Alpine Rescue Team in Colorado seventeen years ago, he was a clueless Youngstowner fresh off the interstate from Ohio who didn’t know Gore-Tex from Tex-Mex. He had a lifetime of ridiculously dangerous pursuits and backcountry sins to atone for, so he became a Rocky Mountain rescuer with the intention of repaying the massive karmic debt he had accumulated. This is the story of how a career in volunteer service to others transformed a self-absorbed Rustbelt redneck adrenaline junkie into one of the nation’s leading voices in technical rope rescue.” On Amazon.
