Hello and welcome to Petzl America. I’m Steve Petty and I’m here in Salt Lake City, Utah at our North American headquarters and distribution center. We hope this live event will educate and inform you about our rescue products, including our new Spin line of pulleys.

I’m happy to announce we have a number of new products to introduce this year and I’ll go through these products, but for more information, please visit Rescue Response Gear and Rigging Lab Academy.

First step is the Paw. We’ve upgraded the paw series with super-strong forged aluminum to make them lighter and more adaptable for different rigging gear and situations. We’ve made the holes larger so that you can attach carabiners and flip the gate through. They’re also smooth and beveled to go easier on your slings. The main attachment hole is large enough for two carabiners or two slings if you prefer. You can also see that on the large rigging plate, we have two horizontal holes that can adapt to large slings or anchor straps. These new rigging plates are going to be a favorite among technical rescue teams for their lightweight and versatility.

SPIN L1 & L2

Very high efficiency single and double pulleys with swivel openable even when attached to the anchor, the SPIN L1 and SPIN L2 pulleys are designed for maximum simplicity in setting up hauling or load deviation systems and Tyroleans. The large diameter sheave mounted on sealed ball bearings gives it excellent efficiency. The swivel facilitates handling, allowing the pulley to be oriented under load, and direct connection of carabiners, ropes or slings. The SPIN L2 has two parallel-mounted sheaves and an auxiliary attachment point that allows the pulley to be used for setting up various types of complex haul systems.

SPIN L1D

Very high-efficiency single pulley with one-way rotation and swivel openable even when attached to the anchor, the SPIN L1D pulley is designed to be used in conjunction with a descender for maximum simplicity in setting up a deviation for a heavy load. The faceted sheave only rotates in one direction, providing excellent efficiency when hauling and adding friction zones for the rope for additional braking when lowering. The swivel facilitates handling, allowing the pulley to be oriented under load, and direct connection to carabiners, ropes or slings.

The Nano Traxion should look familiar to many of you. It’s similar to our micro traction and protraction with progress capture, but this weighs in at only 53 grams and has a 91% efficient pulley. It’s a lot of help in a small package. Another new product is our wire strap. This is our ANSI-rated galvanized steel cable anchor that has asymmetric ends. You can rig it in basket mode or in choker mode for a reliable anchor, and it comes in five different lengths.

Next up is the Duo RL headlamp. The Duo RL is Petzl’s latest rechargeable headlamp designed for technical rescue. With an amazing 3000 lumens, it’s literally like having a searchlight on your head.

It also has multiple beam patterns for different situations, and it features Petzl’s patented reactive lighting technology, which adjusts lighting according to the lighting environment, thus preserving battery life. The lamp head has made of machine aluminum for ruggedness and waterproofness up to one meter. It also has a rechargeable battery on the back that gives you instant battery status with a push of a button, and you can change batteries if necessary, without even taking the headlamp off your head.

Our Duffels consist of two models, the 65 liter and 85-liter models. These duffels can be carried like a backpack with comfortable padded straps for the long haul, or just slung over your shoulder where you can even carry it on your side, like a suitcase. The wide opening helps you see what you have inside and gear loops to help organize your gear. There’s also a separate zippered expandable pocket to keep your helmet or shoes or anything else separate from your gear. And there’s even an ID pocket on the end for your business card. These duffels are made from a super strong and waterproof TPU material for long use.

All right. Finally, I’m excited to introduce the new spin line of swivel pulleys. These innovative swivel pulleys consist of the Spin L1, the Spin L2, and the Spin L1D. There’s already a lot of buzz about these pulleys among the pros who use our gear in the field. But before we talk about what makes these pulleys so cool, let’s talk a little bit about the history of pulleys. No one is quite sure who invented the pulley, but they’d been used for thousands of years. The first documented use was that of Greek mathematician Archimedes in about 200 BC. But for hundreds of years, they’ve been used in sailing, manufacturing, construction, and a host of other applications. Over the years materials have changed, but the basic designs and concepts have remained the same
